The principal in Midlothian is William J. Sim President and CEO. Prior to founding Midlothian Mr. Sim was Senior Vice President of Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI), a regional energy holding company that provides utility service to more than 1.8 million customers. PHI is the parent company of Potomac Electric Power Company(Pepco), an electric utility serving Washington, D.C. and suburban Maryland; Delmarva Power, an electric and gas utility serving Delaware and the rest of the Delmarva peninsula; and Atlantic City Electric (ACE), an electric utility serving southern New Jersey. Mr. Sim was responsible for utility operations across all PHI utilities and in addition served as President and CEO of Pepco and ACE.
Mr. Sim joined Potomac Electric Power Company in 1977 from the construction industry as Manager, Generating Construction. He served as President and COO of the American Energy Division of Potomac Electric Power Company subsidiary Potomac Capital Investment Corporation (PCI) from 1987 to 1991 where he was responsible for PCI’s non-regulated generation businesses including their renewable energy business (solar, waste and hydro).In this role Mr. Sim negotiated, started-up and ran PCI’s joint ventures and partnership agreements with Italian, German and French companies.Mr. Sim was elected Vice President, Operations and Construction, Potomac Electric Power Company, in 1991 and became Vice President, Power Supply and Delivery in 1994. He became Group Vice President, Generation, in 1997. In 2001, he became Senior Vice President, Power Delivery, responsible for all aspects of transmission and delivery of electricity to Potomac Electric Power Company's customers.
He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and is a 1968 graduate of the University of Glasgow, Glasgow, Scotland. He holds a master's degree in business administration from Loyola College in Maryland.
Mr. Sim has numerous professional affiliations. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Williams Industries a NASD steel fabrication and erection company in Manassas Virginia, a member of the Board of Visitors, A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland; and a member of Leadership Washington, Class of 2003. He also serves as Chairman of the Washington Building Congress; and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Round House Theatre. He has also served on the Metropolitan Board of the Greater Washington Boys and Girls Club; is Past Chairman, Loyola College MBA Alumni Fundraising Campaign; Past Chairman, Pepco United Way Campaign; and Past Chairman & Founder, Soccer Association of Columbia, Maryland. He is also a member of the inaugural class (2005) of the Howard County Maryland Community Sports Hall of fame and has been named a Globalscot by the First Minister of the Scottish Parliament.
